The Graduate Record Examination test popularly known as GRE is conducted by Educational Testing Services U.S.A. GRE is an important part of the university application process. GRE is a multiple-choice, computer-based, and computer-adaptive standardized exam that is often required for admission to graduate programs study overseas.

Most of the reputed universities worldwide offering STEM courses require a high score in GRE for admission. GRE mainly consists of 3 modules, and it will determine the aptitude of the student.

Quantitative Reasoning — Measures the ability to understand, interpret and analyze quantitative information, solve problems using mathematical models and apply the basic concepts of arithmetic, algebra, geometry and data analysis. There is an emphasis on quantitative reasoning skills.

Verbal Reasoning — Measures the ability to analyze and draw conclusions from the discourse, reason from incomplete data, understand multiple levels of meaning, such as literal, figurative and author’s intent, summarize text, distinguish major from minor points, understand the meanings of words, sentences and entire texts and understand relationships among words and among concepts. There is an emphasis on complex verbal reasoning skills.

Analytical Writing — Measures critical thinking and analytical writing skills, including the ability to articulate and support complex ideas with relevant reasons and examples and examine claims and accompanying evidence. There is an emphasis on analytical writing skills. 

Maximum score achievable in GRE is 340 and valid for 5 years

The GMAT is developed and administered by test maker GMAC to provide business schools with common measures of applicants’ preparedness for graduate-level academic work. SAT is Scholastic Assessment Test is a standardized entrance exam used by most colleges and universities to make admission decisions. The SAT is a multiple-choice, Computer based Test created and administered by the College Board U.S.A.

The purpose of the SAT is to measure a high school student’s readiness for college and provide colleges with one common data point that can be used to compare all applicants. College admissions officers will review standardized test scores alongside your high school GPA, the classes you took in high school, letters of recommendation from teachers or mentors, extracurricular activities, admissions interview and personal essays. The importance of SAT will determine the college application process which varies from school to school.

Most high school students take the SAT, the ACT or both during the spring of their junior year or fall of their senior year. It’s important to leave time to re-take the test if you need to raise your score before you apply to college. The SAT exam is offered nationally every year in August, October, November, December, March, May and June.

There are three SAT sections:

Math
Evidence-Based Reading
Writing

The SAT also includes an optional Essay section. SAT Essay scores are reported separately from overall test scores. Some colleges may require that you complete the SAT Essay. Maximum score achievable for SAT is 1600 and valid for 5 years
